Here's what I See: The brush mountings for 2 of the brushes (approx 90 degrees apart) are insulated from the backing plate. One way to tell if it is charging would be, when the tractor is running pull the positive battery cable. If it stays running it is charging. If it dies then the charging system isn't working. The first test is to remove the genny main and field leads and start tractor and run up to 3000 rpm genny speed (I assume is full throttle).
