WebI tried many things, including disabling all extensions. It seems that switching the tab layout to "Compact" fixed the high CPU usage, slowness, battery drain, and overheating for my macbook pro. These issues were notably worse if I opened multiple windows. But in Compact layout CPU for Safari is down in the 0-10% range now. WebActivity monitor showed a "Safari Web Content" process using one full CPU core at 100%. Getting a trace from that process, showed some references to Dev Tools. Switching off "Show develop menu" from settings > advanced, and then restarting the application solved for me. I was able to switch dev tools back on, and so far the issue has not returned. ofifafe
